Grief Education is coming to UK schools in September 2026

May 24, 2026

From September 2026, children in England will begin

learning about grief, loss, and bereavement as part of the

national curriculum for the first time.

From September 2026, bereavement education will become part of the primary RSE / PSHE curriculum in England.

For the first time, children will be taught that:

“Change and loss, including bereavement, can provoke a range of feelings, that grief is a natural response to bereavement,

and that everyone grieves differently” (DfE, 2025).

This marks a significant step forward in helping society become more compassionate, emotionally aware, and better equipped to support one another through grief and loss.

To help schools, educators, support organisations, and communities prepare for these important curriculum changes,

Legacy Share Founding Director John Adams will be hosting a webinar focused on:

Why this change is taking place

What this means for schools and educators

How to approach conversations around grief with children

Understanding the new curriculum guidance

Available support and resources

Creating compassionate and confident learning environments

For many years, society has avoided conversations around grief and bereavement. This change represents an opportunity to better prepare future generations for one of the only guarantees in life.

Date: Tuesday 2nd June at 5.30pm - 6.30pm

 All are welcome
